Earthquake Now: Magnitude 3.9 Quake Hits Near Dublin, California
On Monday night, an earthquake of magnitude 3.9 shook houses and structures around the Bay Area. According to confirmation from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 7:46 p.m. around 3 miles west of Dublin and at a depth of about 7.27 miles.
Widespread Shaking Felt
While the earthquake’s preliminary magnitude was initially reported at 4.2, it was later downgraded to 3.9. More than 11,000 responses were logged on the USGS’ “Did You Feel It?” tool, with reports of shaking from San Francisco to Napa in the north, and as far as Santa Cruz in the south.
Locals described the earthquake as a strong shock that was followed by slight shaking. Products tumbling from shelves were reported, but no serious injuries or damage were immediately confirmed.
San Ramon Eyewitness Reactions: One person said a powerful shake startled them.
Walnut Creek: During the tremor, residents experienced a vibrating couch.
Hayward: A KTVU worker said the earthquake was quite powerful and reported fleeing outside.
San Francisco: High-rise occupants on the 29th floor felt their building sway.
