Is Chipotle closed? No, Chipotle isn’t closing — it’s expanding.
Is Chipotle closed? Burrito lovers can breathe a sigh of relief — Chipotle is not closing down despite the swirling social media rumors. Instead, the fast-casual giant is expanding with plans to open 315 to 345 new locations this year, according to company officials.
Where Did the Rumors Start?
On March 20, 2025, the false reports that Chipotle was closing began to spread. X (formerly Twitter), Reddit, and TikTok were some of the platforms that added to the uncertainty. However, the rumors are coming from a Spanish media outlet called Unión Rayo.
The site announced that Farmesa Fresh Eatery, a brief Chipotle offshoot, had closed. Sadly, the article’s usage of a promotional graphic with the Chipotle emblem gave readers the impression that the parent company was going out of business.
Chipotle’s Robust Financial Position
In its most recent earnings call, Chipotle reported strong results, far from insolvency or financial difficulties. The chain’s 2024 revenue of $11.3 billion represented a 14.6% rise over 2023.
- Zero debt and over $2 billion in cash reserves.
- Clearly, Chipotle is not facing any bankruptcies or closures in 2025.
Looking Ahead
Instead of shutting down, Chipotle is doubling down on growth. With hundreds of new restaurants slated to open, customers will have even more opportunities to enjoy their favorite burritos and bowls.
So go ahead and add that extra guac — Chipotle is here to stay.
