2026 Lexus RZ First Drive
Power Up: Lexus RZ550e Brings the Heat in 2026
With the 2026 Lexus RZ, a more sophisticated and potent vehicle in its premium EV lineup, Lexus has upped the ante in the electric SUV industry. There are several trim choices for the RZ, which now offers improved performance, a greater range, and quicker AC home charging.
With variants ranging from the base RZ350e with 224 horsepower to the top-tier RZ550e F Sport with 408 horsepower, Lexus is offering luxury EV buyers actual performance, even though not all of the best features will be accessible in the US.
Better Range, Faster Charging
In its updated form:
- RZ350e offers up to 302 miles of range
- RZ450e features 313 hp and up to 261 miles
- RZ550e brings 408 hp, 228 miles of range, and AWD excitement
Charging also improves with 11 kW AC home charging and 150 kW DC fast charging, plus NACS plug integration for Tesla-style compatibility.
What’s Missing in Euro-Spec vs. U.S.-Spec?
Unfortunately, the futuristic steering yoke and steer-by-wire technology seen in the Euro-spec RZ550e F Sport will not be accessible to drivers in the United States. VCIM, a mechanism that improves ride comfort and stability, is also absent.
Nevertheless, the U.S. version will still offer thrilling acceleration, Dynamic Sky glass roof, and a quiet cabin with improved rear tire noise isolation.
Interior Needs, Tech Upgrades
While Lexus made several thoughtful upgrades, the driver display remains small and cluttered, and one-pedal driving is still not supported. Paddle shifters offer variable regenerative braking, but don’t allow full stop driving like some rivals.
The Dynamic Sky glass roof is a highlight—transitioning from opaque to transparent at the press of a button, offering sunlight or shade without a physical cover.
Verdict: Is the RZ Finally Competitive?
The 2026 Lexus RZ is a big improvement. It may not top the charts against Tesla’s Model Y or Genesis GV60 in terms of raw range or high-speed charging, but for Lexus loyalists, it’s a more refined, quieter, and better-equipped SUV than before.
