GM recalls 877K vehicles: Defective 6.2L V-8 engines in trucks

GM recalls 877K vehicles

GM recalls 877K vehicles: A major recall of 877,000 full-size vehicles and SUVs has been issued by General Motors. Vehicles with the 6.2-liter V-8 engine are the focus of the recall because of the possibility of engine damage, power outages, or complete engine failure.

Additionally, a stop-sale order has been issued for the impacted cars that are currently on dealer lots.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

The recall spans several popular 2021–2024 models, including:

  • Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV
  • Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe
  • GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL
  • Vehicles with the 6.2L L87 V-8 engine are specifically at risk.

What Caused the Recall?

GM recalls 877K vehicles: The recall stems from manufacturing defects in critical engine components like the crankshaft and rods. These defects may lead to severe engine damage, a sudden loss of power, or even total engine failure while driving.

Earlier this year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation after receiving 39 complaints about similar engine issues.

What GM Plans to Do

All affected vehicles must undergo a dealer inspection.

  • If the engine passes inspection:
  • Oil cap and oil filter will be replaced.
  • High-viscosity 0W-40 oil will be added.
  • If the engine fails inspection:
  • The engine will be repaired or completely replaced at no cost to the owner.
  • GM emphasizes that “the safety and satisfaction of our customers are the highest priorities,” according to an official statement.

What Owners Should Know

If you own one of the listed models, GM advises scheduling an inspection immediately. Dealers will perform necessary repairs free of charge. Meanwhile, vehicles in dealer inventory are under a stop-sale order and cannot be sold until they are inspected and cleared.
